– قدرت برش واترجت بسیار بیشتر از لیزر است بنابراین دستگاه واترجت توانایی برش مواد با سختی و ضخامت بالا را دارد در حالیکه لیزر این توانایی را ندارد، به عنوان مثال پرتوان‌ترین لیزرها توانایی برش تنگستن کارباید یا تیتانیوم را ندارند همچنین توانایی برش فولاد با ضخامت بالاتر از 20میلیمتر را ندارد .
واترجت هر ماده‌ای را برش می‌دهد اما لیزر دست‌کم در موارد زیر محدودیت دارد :
1- دستگاه‌های برش لیزر توانایی برش سنگ، سرامیک، شیشه را ندارد.
2- موادی که ویژگی بازتابش دارند مانند آلومینیوم، برنج، مس و…
تنها لیزرهایی که مجهز به آنتی‌رفلکتور هستند آلومینیوم را برش می‌دهند، بیشتر دستگاه‌های لیزر توانایی برش برنج و مس را ندارند، دستگاه‌هایی که این توانایی را دارند تنها قادر به برش مس و برنج با ضخامت‌های پایین هستند.
3- موادی که در اثر برش با لیزر دودهای سمی و خطرناک تولید می‌کنند.
موادی مانند پی‌وی‌سی، پلی‌کربنات، کامپوزیت‌های الیافی، آزبست و… در اثر حرارت ناشی از برش لیزر دود سمی تولید می‌کنند.
اگرچه دود ناشی از برش چوب سمی نیست اما تنها لیزرهای پیشرفته‌ی مجهز به لنزهای ضدخش، ضدغبار و پمپ دمنده‌ی هوا توانایی برش چوب را دارند.
– دقت برش واترجت در ضخامت‌های بالا بیشتر از لیزر است.
– ماهیت برش واترجت سرداست، بنابراین مشکلات ناشی از حرارت یعنی تغییر شکل فیزیکی یا خواص میکانیکی، ذوب شدن لبه برش در هنگام توقف زیاد نازل در یک محل، وجود ندارد.
– کاهش چشمگیر هزینه برش واتر جت
– سرعت بسیار بالاتر برش واترجت
– عدم نیاز به ایجاد سوراخ اولیه برای شروع برش
– دستگاه وایرکات تنها مواد رسانای الکتریکی را می‌تواند برش دهد و حتی درمورد آلومینیوم که رسانا هم هست به علت اینکه براده‌های آلومینیوم عمر فیلتر دستگاه را کاهش می‌دهند، هزینه برش آلومینیوم بالاتر است، اما واترجت محدودیت ماده برای برش ندارد.
– مشکلات ناشی از برش گرم یعنی تنش حرارتی دروایرکات وجود دارد.
– سرعت بسیار بالاتر برش واترجت
– کمتر بودن عرض برش واترجت
– فرز توانایی برش هر ماده با هر ضریب سختی را ندارد.
– فرز توانایی برش مواد با ضخامت‌های بالا را ندارد.
– در برش با فرز برای هر ضخامت ماده باید مته مناسب به دستگاه بسته شود .
– در برش با فرز احتمال شکستن مته به دلایل مختلف هست و با گذشت زمان مته در اثر استفاده کُند می‌شود.
– در برش با فرز امکان اجرای طرح‌های پیچیده، شکل‌های ظریف و طرح‌های منحنی نیست.
– کیفیت لبه‌ها بسیار بالاتر است
– مشکلات ناشی از برش گرم یعنی تنش حرارتی در پلاسما و هوابرش هست اما در واترجت نیست.
– عرض برش در واترجت بسیار کمتر است.
– هوابرش و پلاسما امکان برش طرح‌های ظریف و پیچیده را ندارند.
